Trenching that hits the right depth

Trenching is the controlled digging of narrow channels for utilities and drainage — water and sewer lines, electrical and gas conduit, irrigation, and stormwater pipe. The value of a good trench is in the details you can't see once it's backfilled: the depth is right for frost and code, the bottom is uniform so the pipe sits without stress, and the slope is consistent so gravity lines actually flow.

Cutting the trench

Bedding and pipe support

The trench bottom is prepared so pipe sits fully supported. Uneven rock left in the bottom is removed and replaced with proper bedding.

Backfill and compaction

After the line is set, backfill goes in and is compacted in lifts so the ground over the trench doesn't sink after the first big rain.

Caliche, depth, and the monsoon

Caliche is the defining factor for trenching in this area. When the hardpan sits shallow, reaching required burial depth takes more effort and the right machine — you can't simply push through it. We plan for that so a trench doesn't stall halfway to grade. The variability matters too: one end of a run can be soft soil and the other solid caliche, which changes the pace across a single trench.

Gravity drainage and sewer trenches have to hold a consistent fall so water keeps moving, and that matters even more when monsoon storms dump water fast.
